Yamaha Tugs At Our Heart Strings With A YZR500 Inspired 2024 XSR900 GP

Leaks came out months ago that led to rumors of a faired Yamaha XSR900 GP, and Yamaha has officially pulled the cover off of their new CP3 equipped model…but it’s not coming to the US.

Yamaha is going to be showing off this model at the Japan Mobility Show as well as EICMA in the coming weeks, but it’s going to take even longer than that for us Americans to get a close look at this gorgeous machine. Yamaha has announced that they aren’t intending to bring the retro GP styed bike to the land of the free anytime soon..

The 1980’s and 90’s were an amazing time for sportbikes, and Team Blue is throwing a bit of recognition to the era with the GP with a YZR Grand Prix design, added side bodywork, and reworked tail and tank bodywork.

Under the new stylish plastics is the same CP3 that we know and love, mounted into the updated frame that debuted last year for the XSR900. The handling and performance has become more refined over the years since debuting the FZ-09 with an unleaded monster of a triple, lending itself to a broader audience and more appeal, but we think this GP will have a very select group of retro GP fans excited.

Just because I’m not European though doesn’t mean that I can’t drool over some photos. Let us know what you think of the all new XSR900 GP. I have a feeling this isn’t going to be the only retro-styles sportbike unveiled for the 2024 model year, but more on that in a bit.
